New York, NY, July 23, 2014 – Third Rail Beer, a new craft brewery owned by a trio of native New Yorkers, is launching in its hometown this summer. Third Rail Beer is driven by a passion for innovation and the endless pursuit of quality, honoring beer heritage, and pride in the culture and community of New York City.
Third Rail Beer will make its NYC debut with two beers: Bodega, an abundantly hopped American Pale Ale brewed with Citra and Centennial hops; and Field 2, the brewery’s take on a classic Belgian Farmhouse Ale. Third Rail Beer is the 33rd brewery to call New York City home, and just the 13th based in Manhattan.
“Third Rail’s commitment to New York City is delivering meticulously designed and tested craft beers across a wide range of styles, showcasing the wealth of variety and personality that come from four simple ingredients,” said brewmaster Loren Taylor-Raymond. “We are ecstatic to become part of an electric brewing culture in New York City, and are humbled, honored and eager to share our beers and our love of all things brewing with our hometown.”
With a background rooted in microbiology and organic chemistry, Taylor-Raymond has a deep understanding of both fermentation and hop oil science, and a passion for combining them. A core component of what he plans to achieve as Third Rail Beer’s head brewer is the generation of innovative flavors through knowledge of flavor compound pathways in yeast metabolism and careful water ion calibration.
Co-founder Kaitlyn Haubrich—previously a record label representative—possesses a discerning palate and deep passion for community engagement and support in the craft beer industry, and will oversee sales and events for Third Rail Beer; while co-founder Larry Koestler, a craft beer evangelist, freshness advocate and unrepentant hophead, will spearhead the brewery’s marketing efforts.
Third Rail Beer is proud to brew its beers as a tenant brewer at Newport, Rhode Island’s Coastal Extreme Brewing (which sells its own beers under the Newport Storm label). Taylor-Raymond devises, tests, and refines each recipe extensively before traveling to Newport to personally brew and monitor every batch. This is the first time in its 15-year history Coastal Extreme has taken on a tenant brewer. Third Rail Beer intends to eventually open a production brewery and tap room within the five boroughs of New York City.
Third Rail Beer will be holding its upcoming launch party at One Mile House, located at 10 Delancey Street (between Bowery & Chrystie Street) on Manhattan’s Lower East Side, on Saturday, August 23, 2014. Both Bodega American Pale Ale and Field 2 Farmhouse Ale will be tapped that evening.
Following the launch night event, Bodega and Field 2 will be available on draft at craft beer bars throughout the five boroughs, with additional styles and periodic limited bottle releases from Third Rail Beer to follow in the not-too-distant future.
